Immense have won funding from the National Infrastructure Commission and Highways England for our SBRI (Small Business Research Initiative) bid titled "Traffic Prediction for CAVs". The competition asked entrants to consider future issues such as road design, traffic management and how the rules of the road may need to be adapted to take account of this new technology. The project will be completed in August, with a subsequent winning project receiving further funding to advance cutting-edge work.

Robin discussing the UK landscape for Autonomous Vehicles

SHACK15 - Data Insights Series October, 2017 Events

Driverless vehicles are all the rage in Silicon Valley: tech giants from Uber to Alphabet, to Apple and Tesla are all fiercely vying to create the best self-driving car technology.

But what about the UK? What companies are working to bring driverless vehicles to Britain, and how do they plan to do it? What are the technical challenges and breakthroughs, the legal hurdles, and the financial prospects for British driverless vehicle projects? What sectors will be disrupted - mobility, freighting, home delivery? And is the UK public ready for autonomous vehicles?

We tried to answer those questions (and more) during the latest event in the SHACK15 Data Insights Series, our quarterly panel discussions devoted to the fastest-growing areas of data science and AI. We were joined by Notion Capital Investor Alex Flamant; Dr Robin North from Immense Simulations, a company creating software to manage fleets of self-driving vehicles; and William Sachiti, CEO of the Academy of Robotics and the inventor of driverless pod Kar-Go. FULL PANEL DISCUSSION.

Merge Greenwich Launch

Merge Greenwich October, 2017 External

The MERGE Greenwich project comes at an exciting time, as the future of autonomous vehicles on BritainŐs roads moves a step closer. It is one of a number of programmes, funded by government, which aim to put Britain at the forefront of mobility and transport technology innovation.

However, for AV ride-sharing to reach this level a service must be developed which can compete on price, convenience and availability. Whilst a new service will inevitably take some level of market share from other transport modes, the MERGE Greenwich project aims to show how AV ride-sharing can complement, rather than compete with, sustainable transport modes (public transport and active travel) and offer an alternative to privately owned vehicles.

Hosted by the Transport Systems Catapult, the event brings together a range of experts to discuss the latest hot button topics in Intelligent Mobility and transport innovation. FULL PRESENTATION

Immense building the brain behind driverless cars

Forbes February, 2016 External

That day in the future when you get inside a self-driving bus to get to work, you'll assume that the bus is programmed to drive you there as efficiently and safely as possible. Software will have replaced the driver who does that today. Perhaps more importantly, software will have also replaced those managing scores of busses at a control centre. Robin North is building the latter technology that will control those fleets from the mothership...
